The department of pathology is one of the clinical departments that carry out the diagnostic work through the tissues and cells of the patient in the hospital with the pathology classroom of the underlying medicine as the matrix. Pathology is a discipline that explores the nature of diseases, especially the causes of diseases, gross, microscopic characteristics, and the progress and consequences of diseases based on the overall basic knowledge of biology and medicine. It helps to understand and treat the patient's illness by identifying the relationship between the morphologic characteristics of each disease and clinical features. In the Pathology department, various kinds of specimens collected from the patient are used as material to diagnose a patient's condition and to evaluate the progress and prognosis of the disease.
Specifically, we have a histological examination of diagnosing the patient's tissues by microscopic observation, cytological examination in which body cells such as pleural fluid or ascites are collected and searched by a microscope, tissue immunochemistry using antigen-antibody reaction, electron microscopic analysis to examine the microstructure of cells for diagnosis, a molecular pathology test that uses molecular biology techniques to diagnose and a frozen section test to determine the extent of emergency diagnosis or surgery, etc.
