Neurosurgery is a broad field that studies the pathology mechanism of diseases occurring in all nervous systems of the human body, such as the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. It is also responsible for medication and physical therapy, as well as surgical treatment. If a person's nervous system compared to a machine, it can be said to be similar to the central control device of a big computer, which is unimaginably elaborate, complex, and emotional, and a plot that transmits commands of this control device to each part. Therefore, it is still the most challenging area in all parts of the human body, and the object of study and the possibility of development is almost infinite, so it can be said to be a study with value and charm for young medical students. They are not afraid of hard physical labor and mental stress to challenge.
In the Neurosurgery Department of Daegu Catholic University Medical Center, five specialists are performing intensive research and medical care. They are segmenting their specialties into cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumors, spinal diseases, trauma, pediatric neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery for the more detailed and in-depth diagnosis and treatment of the patients. All the specialists also have time to discuss and advise each other every day, because they worry that they may make a mistake of seeing trees without seeing the forest by treating through excessive segmentation.
In the future, our neurosurgical team will not only do our best to treat patients but continue to devote ourselves to academic research regardless of basics and clinical aspects. We are also pursuing mid- to long-term plans to secure human resources and the latest equipment and establish a joint treatment system with other departments to turn the system into a unique clinic-oriented medical care system. Please, watch us with warm eyes, and we will look forward to your advice.
