Daegu Catholic University Medical Center's Liver Transplantation and Hepato•Biliary•Pancreatic Surgery began in March 2003 with the successful completion of the first liver transplant operation for a woman in her late 30s who has biliary cirrhosis.
Currently, 700 cases of liver transplant surgery were successfully performed in 2018 with continuous research and efforts, and 97% of the success rate of surgery and survival rate of one year after surgery, which is comparable to that of Seoul's large hospitals.
Also, by successfully performed 2:1 living transplantation surgery in 2010 for the first time in the region, the hospital achieved the success on a series of difficult transplantations such as blood type nonconforming liver transplant surgery in patients with fulminant liver failure (March 2010) for the first time in Korea, liver-kidney simultaneous transplant operation (February 2011) for the first time in the region, pancreatic-kidney co-transplant surgery (January 2013), and the simultaneous pancreatic transplant operation (May 2013).
