Donation from a brain-dead donor

Organs can be donated depending on the status – kidney, liver, pancreas, langerhans islets, heart, lung, small intestine, eyeball, etc.

Brain death means the overall brain including the brainstem has lost its functions due to disease or trauma and the brain activities has been irreversibly stopped. In most cases, without proper treatment, 50% of brain-dead patients die and, therefore, appropriate examination and measures must be provided in order to determine brain death in time and keep organs intact for transplantation.
